US President Donald Trump said the day a two-week ceasefire was announced marked an important moment for the entire world, noting that Iran could begin a recovery process.
In a social media post, Trump wrote that a “golden age” could begin in the Middle East.
“It’s a great day for the world… Iran wants this, it’s exhausted… Just like in the United States, the Middle East can enter a golden age!” he said.
The US leader also stated that he would help “resolve” the bottleneck in the Strait of Hormuz, adding:
“There will be very positive developments! A lot of money will be made… We will load all kinds of materials and stay there to make sure everything goes smoothly. I think everything will be fine.”
What happened?
Earlier, Trump announced that the United States and Iran had agreed on a two-week ceasefire. He claimed that Washington had received a 10-point proposal from Tehran that could serve as a basis for negotiations.
Later, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council declared victory in the war against the US, asserting that Washington had accepted Tehran’s 10-point proposal. According to the council, the US agreed to maintain the security of the Strait of Hormuz, pay compensation, lift sanctions, allow Tehran to continue uranium enrichment, and withdraw its troops from the Middle East.
Western media reported that, under the ceasefire plan, Iran and Oman would charge fees for ship passages through the Strait of Hormuz.
Negotiations between the US and Iran are set to begin on Friday, April 10, in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Tehran has allocated two weeks for the entire negotiation process, during which a ceasefire will be in place. At the same time, Iran’s Security Council stressed that negotiations with the US do not necessarily mean the end of the war.
