Sanchez to Trump: We will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they later brought a bucket

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez once again criticized the Trump administration—without mentioning it by name—for initiating the conflicts in the Middle East. Sánchez said, “The Spanish government will not applaud those who set the world on fire simply because they later showed up with a bucket.”

Sánchez joined world leaders in welcoming the ceasefire announced between the United States and Iran, but also directed criticism at the Trump administration for having sparked the tensions.

In a social media post, Sánchez stated:

“Ceasefires are always good news—especially if they lead to a just and lasting peace. However, this temporary relief must not make us forget the chaos, destruction, and loss of life that have occurred.

The Spanish government will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they later came with a bucket.”

‘International law and peace must prevail’

Having become one of the leading critics within the European Union of US and Israeli attacks on Iran, Sánchez called for “diplomacy, international law, and peace to prevail.”
