“Rutte fails to soften Trump’s stance on NATO”

The meeting between Trump and Rutte reportedly did not lead to any change in the U.S. leader’s hostile attitude toward NATO.

Western media reported that the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte failed to ease the American leader’s antagonistic stance toward allies within the alliance.

Following the meeting with Rutte, Trump said he was convinced that NATO would once again fail to come to the United States’ aid when it is needed.

The report stated: “The meeting between Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte does not appear to have been very effective in softening the U.S. president’s hostility toward his allies.”

Previously, Trump had said he was seriously considering withdrawing from NATO after the alliance refused to support a U.S. operation against Iran. Describing the allies’ response as “an indelible stain,” Trump emphasized that the United States does not need help from NATO countries and that those countries did everything they could to avoid providing assistance.
