Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Israel’s escalating attacks on Lebanon constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire, adding, “This renders negotiations meaningless. Our finger is on the trigger.”
Pezeshkian said that Israel’s strikes on Lebanon breach the ceasefire and undermine the value of ongoing negotiations.
In a post shared on social media, Pezeshkian said:
“Israel’s renewed escalation against Lebanon is a clear violation of the initial ceasefire agreement. Such actions signal deception and non-compliance, making negotiations meaningless. Our finger is on the trigger. Iran will never abandon its Lebanese brothers.”
‘Iran ceasefire does not cover Lebanon’
The attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28 escalated after Iran responded. Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 15-day temporary ceasefire, Iranian officials stated that at least 3,000 people had been killed over 40 days of conflict.
Shortly after the war against Iran began, Israel carried out strikes across multiple regions in Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah. These attacks continued even after the ceasefire. In particular, heavy strikes on Lebanon on April 8 reportedly killed hundreds of people.
As Israel continued its attacks on Lebanon, many Iranian officials voiced strong reactions. Israeli and U.S. officials have stated that the temporary ceasefire with Iran does not include Lebanon. U.S. Vice President JD Vance said yesterday, “The Iranians thought the ceasefire agreement also covered Lebanon, but it does not.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry: The coming hours are critical
An Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, speaking to the Fars News Agency, stated that any peace in the region must include Lebanon and warned that “the coming hours are very critical.”
The official also added that the United States must stop Israel’s attacks on Lebanon.
