Orban: EU must accept it cannot isolate Russia from the global economy

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized the European Union’s energy and economic policies toward Russia, stating that Brussels’ efforts to exclude Moscow from the global economy have failed.

Speaking to Hungarian television channel ATV, Orban said the European Union (EU) cannot do without Russian energy resources and that attempts to isolate Russia from the world economy have proven unsuccessful. He added that Europe should “resume trade with Russia” once peace is achieved in Ukraine.

“Brussels has lost this war. They must accept that Europe needs Russian raw materials and energy resources. They must also understand that the EU is not capable of isolating Russia from the global economy. It appears that the Russians are currently making a lot of money, as they are able to sell their resources to everyone outside Europe.”

Orban emphasized that Europe should revive its economic relations with Moscow after peace is established in Ukraine, saying, “After peace, Europe must trade with Russia again.”

The Hungarian prime minister had previously warned that, amid the risk of a serious shortage in global fuel supply, Europe would not be able to sustain itself without Russian oil.
