Iran denies reports of U.S. ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz

An Iranian military official has denied claims that a U.S. destroyer passed through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the reports are not true. Iranian media also reported that the vessel turned back and no such passage took place.

A senior Iranian military official rejected reports that a U.S. destroyer had transited the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian media, the official said the claims were unfounded and that no such movement occurred in the region.

The statement emphasized that information suggesting a U.S. destroyer had crossed the Strait of Hormuz was incorrect.

Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that the Iranian Armed Forces issued a strong warning to a U.S. destroyer attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, the vessel was warned it would be “targeted within 30 minutes,” after which it turned back without completing the passage.

It was also noted that Iran conveyed this warning to relevant parties to avoid negatively impacting the ongoing negotiation process.

U.S.-based news outlet Axios had earlier claimed that, for the first time since the start of attacks involving the United States and Israel on Iran, American naval vessels had passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The report alleged that the passage occurred without coordination with Iran.
