Friedrich Merz: The United States has no justification for a military intervention in Cuba

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz opposed a possible U.S. military intervention in Cuba, stating that there is no sufficient justification for such an operation.

Speaking at a press conference in Hanover, Merz said:

“There is no clear reason to invade Cuba. Despite all the challenges it faces in its domestic politics under a communist regime, Cuba does not pose a visible threat to third countries beyond its borders.”

He also emphasized that differences in political systems do not constitute grounds for military intervention:

“The capability for defense does not grant the right to militarily intervene in states whose political systems do not align with others’ views.”

“I believe that, at present, the United States has no reason to launch such an operation.”

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously stated that after resolving all issues with Iran, the United States could “turn its attention” to Cuba.
