Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that efforts are underway to strengthen trade relations with Cuba and to explore new investment opportunities.
In her statement, Sheinbaum highlighted the challenges faced by the Cuban people and emphasized that humanitarian aid would continue.
Recalling that the Cuban government has taken steps to open more sectors of its economy to external participation, Sheinbaum said:
“This situation allows private companies to invest in Cuba or to establish cooperation through joint ventures. We are currently evaluating the existing commercial opportunities and investment possibilities in these areas.”
Sheinbaum also noted that countries participating in the Defense of Democracy Summit held in Barcelona reached a consensus on continuing shipments of food and essential goods to Cuba.
U.S. President Donald Trump had signed an executive order on January 30 imposing tariffs on all goods from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba.
