Historic Statement from Pashinyan on Azerbaijan: “We Are Now at Peace”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the opening of the 8th Summit of the European Political Community (EPC) held in Yerevan, emphasized the two-year period without conflict with Azerbaijan and declared that peace has become institutionalized. Highlighting the Trump Route (TRIPP) project, Pashinyan announced that transportation corridors in the region would be opened.

At the summit hosted by Yerevan, Pashinyan described the current state of relations with Azerbaijan as “an unprecedented situation since independence.” Noting that there has been no exchange of fire or loss of life along the border over the past two years, Pashinyan stressed that within the framework of the peace process, the two countries have officially recognized each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He added that this stability is built on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.

Trump Route (TRIPP) and Regional Development

Drawing attention to the International Trump Route for Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), launched with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump to ensure lasting peace, Pashinyan stated that the project is now in the implementation phase. Within this framework, he said new international transportation routes and corridors will be established along east–west and north–south axes. The Armenian leader emphasized that this step is also of critical importance for the stability of the global supply chain.

Normalization Steps with Türkiye and Azerbaijan

Another historic aspect of the summit was diplomatic representation. Pashinyan noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended an event in Armenia for the first time, albeit virtually. He also described the participation of Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz in the summit as the first visit to Armenia at that level from Türkiye. Reiterating his desire to attend the summit planned to be held in Azerbaijan in 2028, Pashinyan delivered a message of normalization.
