Cuban President Warns the U.S.: “The Region Could Turn Into a Bloodbath”

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that a possible U.S. military intervention against his country would destroy regional peace and stability and could lead to “a bloodbath with unpredictable consequences.”

Díaz-Canel made harsh remarks regarding a potential military intervention by the United States against Cuba. The Cuban leader argued that such a scenario could turn the entire region into “a bloodbath.”

In a post shared on social media, Díaz-Canel said that the military threats directed at Cuba by the United States administration — which he described as “the greatest power on the planet” — have long been known.

The Cuban President stated that a U.S. military intervention would not only affect Havana but could also destabilize the entire region, saying:

“The threat itself already constitutes an international crime. If it becomes reality, it would have a devastating effect on regional peace and stability and could lead to a bloodbath with unpredictable consequences.”

“Cuba Is Not a Threat to Any Country”

Díaz-Canel also stressed that Cuba poses no threat to any country and has never pursued an aggressive policy toward the United States.

“We have no such intention against the United States, and we never have. We believe this is well known by the U.S., especially by its defense and national security institutions,” the Cuban leader said.

Claiming that the Havana administration has long been subjected to Washington’s “multidimensional aggression,” Díaz-Canel noted that his country has the right to defend itself against any possible attack.

Tensions Rise After Hegseth’s Remarks

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, speaking before Congress on May 12, said without directly mentioning Cuba:

“We have long been concerned about a foreign adversary using a position so close to our shores.”

Amid rising tensions, John Ratcliffe also traveled to Cuba on May 14 to discuss regional security issues with officials from the Interior Ministry.
