Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s full support for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stating, “We hope that Azerbaijan’s legitimate concerns will be addressed and that the peace agreement will be signed without delay.”
Speaking after the 10th Trilateral Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, held in Istanbul, Fidan made important remarks on regional cooperation and stability.
The meeting was attended by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili. Fidan said that the trilateral mechanism has become “one of the most important guarantees of peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Caucasus.”
‘The Middle Corridor Is a Strategic Backbone’
Fidan emphasized that cooperation among Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia extends beyond the shared interests of the three countries and plays a critical role in promoting stability and connectivity across a wider region.
“The Middle Corridor has become one of the strategic backbones of our trilateral cooperation,” Fidan said, recalling that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway reaching full operational capacity marked an important milestone.
He noted that the three countries aim to create a safer, faster, and more predictable transit route between Europe and Asia by strengthening energy security, transportation networks, and communication infrastructure.
Pointing out that the world is going through a difficult period marked by geopolitical tensions and disruptions, Fidan said:
“Energy security has become a more sensitive issue than ever before. Thanks to the energy infrastructure projects we have implemented together, we have become more resilient against global fluctuations.”
On the Peace Process
Peace and stability in the South Caucasus were among the key topics discussed during the meeting. Hakan Fidan welcomed the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing that the region should be known for development and shared prosperity rather than conflict.
He stated:
“The determination demonstrated by the parties has created a concrete window of opportunity for our region. We support the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We hope that Azerbaijan’s legitimate concerns will be addressed and that the peace agreement will be signed as soon as possible.”
Fidan also recalled that Türkiye’s normalization process with Armenia is continuing in close coordination with Azerbaijan.
He stressed that as the foundations for peace become stronger, connectivity projects will advance further, and as connectivity increases, peace itself will become more sustainable and lasting.
