Bessent: We have frozen $344 million worth of Iran’s cryptocurrency

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that $344 million worth of cryptocurrency belonging to Iran has been frozen.

In his statement, Bessent said that the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on multiple wallets linked to Iran, resulting in the freezing of $344 million in cryptocurrency assets.

In a post shared on his social media account, Bessent stated:

“As part of our economic pressure campaign, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will continue to systematically weaken Tehran’s ability to generate, transfer, and repatriate funds. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), under the Treasury, is adding multiple digital wallets linked to Iran to its sanctions list — effectively freezing $344 million in crypto assets. We will track funds that Tehran is desperately trying to move abroad and will target all financial resources tied to the regime.”
