The death toll from flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the northeastern Indian state of Assam has risen to 61, authorities said.
According to the Hindustan Times, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) released an update on the severe rainfall and flooding affecting the state.
The statement said that 14 more people had lost their lives in the floods, bringing the total death toll to 61.
The annual monsoon season, which lasts from June to September across South Asia, regularly triggers widespread natural disasters and accidents in countries throughout the region, particularly in India and Pakistan.
