U.S. President Donald Trump claimed in a post on his social media platform that “Iran has repeatedly violated the temporary ceasefire agreement.” Speaking later to the U.S. media, Trump said there is little time left to reach a deal with Iran but added that “the negotiations will result in a great agreement.”
Trump stated that Iran had violated the ceasefire multiple times. Just hours before the expiration of the temporary ceasefire, he made a statement on his Truth Social account.
“Negotiations will result in a great deal”
Following his social media post, Trump told CNBC that the United States is in a strong negotiating position with Iran and that they will ultimately reach a “great deal.”
“We don’t have much time”
Stating that the blockade imposed on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz has been successful, Trump said he does not want to extend the ceasefire with Iran, adding, “We don’t have much time.” The U.S. President also noted that they are militarily prepared.
U.S. delegation ready for ceasefire talks
A temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States had been agreed upon in Islamabad, and it is set to expire on Wednesday. Speaking to the U.S. press yesterday, Trump said that the U.S. delegation led by JD Vance is on its way to Pakistan, adding that the Iranian delegation should also be present in Islamabad for the second round of talks.
Trump also stated that he is ready to establish direct contact with senior Iranian leaders if progress is made in the talks, saying, “The agreement could be signed today.” Meanwhile, Iranian officials say they currently have no plans to participate in a second round of negotiations with the United States.
