In Bulgaria, the Progressive Bulgaria Coalition founded by former President Rumen Radev finished first in the general election by a large margin. According to unofficial results, with more than 90% of the votes counted, Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria Coalition received 45% of the vote, securing 135 seats in the 240-seat parliament.
Speaking to the press at the party headquarters in the capital Sofia, Radev said, “This is only the first step. This is the victory of hope over mistrust, the victory of freedom over fear. Expectations are high, hopes are high. This also means a great responsibility. We will do everything we can to avoid going to another election.”
Radev also emphasized that “there should be a strong Bulgaria within a strong Europe.”
According to the released data, the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) received 12% of the vote, the We Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria Alliance (PP-DB) also received 12%, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) got 6%, and the Vazrazhdane (Revival) party received 4%, all passing the electoral threshold.
