German Defense Minister Pistorius: Europe must take responsibility for its own security

Following the United States’ decision to withdraw its troops from Germany, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the move was foreseeable and emphasized that Europe must take on greater responsibility for its defense.

Although Boris Pistorius noted that the presence of U.S. forces in Europe and Germany is critical for both the region and U.S. interests, he described Washington’s troop withdrawal as an expected development.

The minister stressed that in this new era, European allies need to take more initiative for their own security, announcing that Germany has decided to expand its armed forces. As part of this plan, more equipment will be procured more rapidly, and military infrastructure efforts will be accelerated.

The Defense Minister also stated that in all future operations and missions, they will act in much closer coordination with allies within the “Group of Five,” consisting of the United Kingdom, France, Poland, and Italy.
