Greek F-16 Fighter Jet Makes Emergency Landing at Zakynthos Airport

A Greek Air Force F-16 fighter jet made an emergency landing at Zakynthos Airport. According to initial reports, the pilot is in good condition.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the extent of the damage sustained by the aircraft.

The F-16 reportedly took off from the 116th Combat Wing based at Araxos Air Base. Initial assessments suggest that the aircraft may have experienced a malfunction in its landing gear.

Hellenic Air Force: Cause of the Incident Under Investigation

Lieutenant Colonel Konstantinos Gravalos, spokesperson for the Hellenic Air Force General Staff (HAFGS), issued a written statement regarding the incident.

The statement said:

“At 13:45 on Thursday, July 9, 2026, an F-16 aircraft belonging to the 335th Squadron of the 116th Combat Wing, which was conducting a training flight, made an emergency landing at Zakynthos Airport due to a technical malfunction. The pilot is in good health. The causes of the incident are under investigation.”
