At least 12 people have been killed and six others injured in a devastating wildfire in Spain’s southeastern province of Almería. Firefighting operations are continuing as authorities battle the blaze, while approximately 1,000 residents have been evacuated from the affected area.
The wildfire, which broke out near the municipalities of Los Gallardos and Bédar in the province of Almería, has turned into a major disaster. According to a statement by the Andalusian regional government, at least 12 people have lost their lives and six others have been injured.
Authorities said that some of the victims were found inside vehicles that had been engulfed by the flames. The injured include people suffering from smoke inhalation as well as burn injuries, and they are receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the President of the Andalusian Regional Government announced that 19 people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue in the wildfire-affected areas.
