Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the Iranian National Football Team will hold its 2026 FIFA World Cup training camp in Mexico instead of the United States.
Speaking at a press conference, Sheinbaum stated that the Iranian team had chosen Tijuana as its training base. It was noted that the team would travel from there to its matches in Los Angeles and Seattle during the tournament.
In her statement, Sheinbaum said:
“A FIFA representative came to us and asked, ‘Would it be possible for them to stay in Mexico?’ We replied that this would not be a problem for us at all.”
Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico has no reservations about hosting Iran and stated that the process is being coordinated with FIFA.
Meanwhile, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that FIFA approved the request to move the Iranian National Team’s camp center from the United States to Mexico.
