Netanyahu: As Long as I Am in Office, Iran Will Not Be Allowed to Obtain Nuclear Weapons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, following reports that the United States and Iran are close to reaching an agreement. Netanyahu said that he and U.S. President Donald Trump share the same position on the matter.

At a time when reports suggest that Washington and Tehran may soon reach an agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Netanyahu reiterated that Israel would not permit Iran to become a nuclear-armed state.

According to a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu said that he and President Trump are in full agreement on this issue. Claiming that he has been fighting against Iran’s nuclear ambitions for decades, Netanyahu stated, “Had it not been for this struggle, Iran would already possess atomic bombs intended to destroy Israel.”

Netanyahu further asserted that as long as he remains in office, Iran will not be able to obtain nuclear weapons. He claimed that he has devoted his political career and efforts to achieving that objective.

U.S.-Iran Negotiations Gain Momentum

Netanyahu’s remarks came shortly after President Trump stated that Iran had agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons and that an agreement between the two countries had reached the approval stage.

Notably, Netanyahu’s statement did not address reports suggesting that a potential ceasefire in Lebanon—where Israel continues its military operations—could be included as part of the broader negotiations between the United States and Iran.

In previous statements, Netanyahu had suggested that Iran could experience a regime change, that Tehran’s support for its regional allies could be cut off, and that the country’s ballistic missile program could be brought to an end.
