Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected allegations that Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) violated Romanian airspace, stating that the claims are unfounded and announcing that Moscow will respond to Bucharest’s decision to expel a Russian diplomat.
Russia firmly denied Romania’s accusations of violating its airspace. In a statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said there was no basis for the allegations.
Zakharova also commented on the diplomatic dispute that unfolded on July 27, saying that Romanian authorities had summoned Russia’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Vladimir Lipayev, handed him a diplomatic note containing what she described as unfounded accusations, and informed him of the decision to expel a Russian diplomat.
Emphasizing that Moscow considers the allegations to be “groundless,” Zakharova said Russia would not leave the decision unanswered.
“We reject these new and baseless allegations. An appropriate response will be given to the Romanian authorities’ démarche against our ambassador and to their hostile actions, including the expulsion of our diplomat,” Zakharova said.
