U.S. President Donald Trump said he told Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting at the White House that the war in Ukraine needs to come to an end. Trump also emphasized that he maintains “good relationships” with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he delivered a clear message to Zelensky about ending the conflict in Ukraine.
“I want him (Zelensky) to end this war… I told him directly, ‘I want to end the war,’” Trump said.
The U.S. president also commented on his relations with the leaders of both Russia and Ukraine, stating that he continues to have positive dialogue with both despite the ongoing conflict.
“I get along well with both of them. I get along well with President Putin, and I get along well with President Zelensky,” Trump said.
Zelensky and Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House on Tuesday evening. Following the meeting, Zelensky claimed that Trump had, in principle, approved granting Ukraine production licenses for interceptor missiles used in Patriot air defense systems.
Trump, however, did not elaborate on the details, saying only that his meetings with Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been “extremely successful.”
